Hiking with reindeer is a truly unique experience that you will never forget, and one you won’t find anywhere else. On this tour, you get to walk side-by-side with the reindeer and become part of a real reindeer herd.

Together, we move through an enchanting, old-growth forest where reindeer lichen hangs thick from the tree and the anthills stretch as high as yourself. During the tour, we take a cozy break for a traditional Sámi "fika" (coffee and snack), while listening to stories about the Sámi culture, life as a reindeer herder, and how the Sámi year with its eight seasons works.

This is an absolute favorite tour for both adults and children who want to get up close to nature, the animals, and the Sámi culture.

Welcome into our cozy traditional Sámi tipi where we gather on soft reindeer skins and let ourselves be captivated by ancient Sámi myths and legends—a world filled with mystery. Here, you will discover the story of Staalo, a fascinating character known for being both mean and easily tricked, as well as the Sámi goddesses and their unique powers, along with many other exciting creatures from Sámi folklore.

Together, we will grill a flavorful reindeer sausage over the open fire (a vegetarian option is available). This is a cozy yet thrilling experience for adventurers of all ages!

Good to know: This tour is perfectly suited for children from 3 years and up. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Experience the very special feeling when they curiously approach to eat directly from your hands, and feel how incredibly soft their fur and muzzle are.

During our encounter, you will learn more about what an amazing animal the reindeer is and how incredibly well-adapted it is to survive a harsh, arctic climate. For instance, did you know that in some aspects, reindeer actually have better eyesight than humans?

Do you want to experience what life in the mountains was like in the old days? Together, we hike to our great-grandfather’s (Maadther Ajja) summer kåta, where he once lived with his ten children, farmhands, and dogs. This authentic turf kåta is completely private and is opened exclusively for our guided tours.

The hike takes about 30 minutes through a scenic and easy, yet slightly rocky terrain, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of both the Norwegian and Swedish mountains. Once we arrive and step into the unique atmosphere of the kåta, we prepare a traditional Sámi meal over the open fire. Here, you will enjoy steaming hot, freshly brewed camp coffee while listening to stories about what life as a reindeer herder looked like in our great-grandfather's time, as well as how we work today.

We gather around set tables surrounding the hearth inside our large tältkåta (traditional Sámi tipi), with the mountains framing the landscape outside. This is a magical setting you won't find in any ordinary restaurant. Here, you will have the chance to enjoy authentic Sámi cuisine accompanied by stories about our food culture and life as a reindeer herder. Every dish carries a story, and every tale gives the flavors of the mountains a deeper dimension.

Departure info: The tour starts at 18:00 (6 PM) from our shop located at Grövelsjövägen 380 in Storsätern. From there, you will follow us in your own car for about 4 km to our large kåta.

Join us on a fascinating journey on foot and discover a place that for a long time was nothing more than a mysterious name on the map. The name hinted at an old Sámi settlement, but the traces and stories of the people who once lived here had long been forgotten and buried.

Just a few years ago, the improbable happened. Archaeologists finally found the old Sámi settlement, deeply hidden and preserved in the beautiful mountain wilderness. Soil samples and excavations revealed exciting discoveries that we will tell you more about.

Together, we will hike for about 1.5 hours through magnificent nature before reaching Lappvallen. Once there, you can enjoy your packed lunch, and we will treat you to traditional camp coffee served with dried reindeer meat. Sit back and let yourself be captivated by the stories of the Sámi culture.
